THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN

GOOD WORKS AND SALVATION

Salvation is

NOT BY WORKS (Ephesians 2:8-9)

·      Good works are not the MEANS of salvation. (Titus 3:5)

·      Good works are not the CAUSE of salvation.  (2 Timothy 1:9)

·      Good works are not what a person MUST DO to be saved.

But to him that WORKETH NOT, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.  (Romans 4:5)

·      The unsaved person performs good works to try to obtain and merit God's favor and grace.  (Acts 16:30)

·      A person cannot WORK FOR his salvation. (Romans 4:5)

The works of an unsaved person will be an issue at the Great White Throne Judgment.  (Rev. 20:11-15)

Salvation should be

UNTO GOOD WORKS (Ephesians 2:10)

·      Good works are to be the RESULT of salvation. (Titus 3:8)

·      Good works should be the CONSEQUENCE of salvation.  (Titus 3:14)

·      Good works are what a saved person should do BECAUSE HE HAS BEEN SAVED.

This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works.  (Titus 3:8)

·      The saved person should perform good works because he has obtained God's favor and grace. (Titus 2:11-14)

·      A saved person can WORK OUT the salvation that he has.  (Phil. 2:12)

The works of a saved person will be an issue at the Judgment Seat of Christ.  (1 Cor. 3:11-15; 2 Cor. 5:10)
